I had a Silverado 2500 reserved, but got $67k worth of 4x4 LTZ package carpool heaven instead. Can’t say it’s the sexiest thing I’ve brought home, and I’m sure a few Oppos (or their parents) may even own one, but it is rather enjoyable in its own right. Ask away!

How much of a discount did you get off list? I’ve always wanted a Tahoe...

How much of a hoe is it?

Why will GM not build a Duraburban or Tamax?

What kind of heroic trek are you embarking upon that necessitates the use of a Silverado/Tahoe instead of the Camaro?

How wide is it, like, really?

Do you prefer the Tahoe front end or the Silverado’s?
I wish they’d go back to keeping the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Yukon XL front ends the same as the Silverado/Sierra’s

How many storage holes and cubby spots are in it that can fit an adult hedgehog?

I’ve valeted a few of its Escalade and have noticed that the interior a leaps and bounds better than the older ones. Did the decent interiors make their way down to the Tahoe too?

I rented the previous gen back in March, which was not what I’d reserved and I was not happy about it. Much to my surprise, I ended up loving it. What a great highway cruiser!
How’s the cargo space with the 3rd row folded down? Would it be worth the $55k it’d take to buy the one as I’d option it, in your personal opinion?
![]() 12/03/2015 at 16:31 |

Many! Lots of storage, even a Cadillac-style secret cubby behind the touchscreen.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 16:32 |

This one has the one-touch folding third row, which seems very convenient. I’ve carted around 5 grown adults all very comfortable.

Honestly not too bad. Backed it into a spot between two trucks this morning and still had room to fully open the doors.

The Camaro is in storage for the winter :( and this beats the hell out of my winter beater.

I’m not a big fan of the beige color in this particular one, but it is really nice. Leather heated and cooled seats, heated wheel, and shifter fits nicely in the hand. Wood trim throughout as well.

There was a black on black Custom Sport Plus at one of our local dealers for a while and it looked incredible.

Ok, so I drove one of these once, and you had to mash the shit out of the gas pedal to get it to accelerate, is this one that way too or was the one I was driving just weird?
Also, the turning radius was really impressive considering how big it was...

These still seem like the perfect candidate for a chop and a channel to turn it back into what GM should still be producing: A wagon that can tow.

I agree with your assessment. This one has the cylinder deactivation, but even when it’s using all cylinders I was still a bit surprised by how much throttle it wanted to get moving. It does get out of its own way pretty well, at least.

Will it rally?
Serious question: Have you towed with it? How does it behave?

My parents had the previous 2 generations of Yukon, they did not opt for making it a threepeat when car-searching this summer. I hope this one doesn’t suffer from the long(ish)-term quality issues that the previous gen did/does.
In many ways I always liked the ‘06 more than the ‘11 too. Steering in the old truck was better despite having a slower ratio and bigger turning ratio. Old truck had real sterring feel, new truck required effort to centre from tight turns sometimes, it was wooden/sticky all while being overassisted at the same time. Hate the squishy throttle in the ‘11. Old transmission was smoother, despite having 2 less ratios (iirc).

So the grass is greener on the other side by being an engineer!

I went to the US last year for the first time, I saw plenty of these, the question is why were they all this red? I mean all of them were red.

So... company car?
What type of engineer? I've always wanted to be one.

That’s weird. Usually they’re white, black, or silver.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 21:44 |

No, not a company car in the typical sense. More like a free week-long rental out of whatever’s on hand.
My formal background is in aerospace engineering, and I work in body/exterior now.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 21:46 |

Not sure. FWIW, this crystal red tint is a premium color, so maybe dealers like having them on the lot?
![]() 12/03/2015 at 21:48 |

Lol :P from what I can tell in a suburban setting, I think it would be competent on dirt. I haven’t gotten to tow anything with it, but it has the full towing package. Maybe I’ll have to hook up my trailer and give it a whirl.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 21:51 |

Yes on the heated steering, but it’s mostly on the lower half of the wheel which is weird. NVH seems pretty dang good but then again I’m also used to really crappy NVH.

This one has 14xxx miles on it so far, no idea if it’s had to go in for service or anything in that time, but I haven’t noticed the issues your older ones had.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 21:54 |

Didn’t get to pick! and the ride is verrrr nice, even on Detroit roads.

That is odd with the wheel... I love Heated Steering wheel as a feature! My current DD spoiled me... It was an option but mine didn’t have it... So I bought a steering wheel on ebay with the heat, figured out the wiring diag and attempted to install.
When I was done, I keyed the car to Ignition ON and pressed the button and the car started... That startled me. I double checked my work and found out the signal wire I tapped into was for the ignition switch. I fixed it and perfect steering wheel heat over the last 3 years!

That was just the driving characteristics I didn’t like. The A/C on the ‘11 died 3 times (lines twice, condensor, maybe a compressor too) before it was traded at ~80k miles, it also had issues with the stereo and blew out the brake lines in that time. Mind you, the ‘06 also lost the brakes once, we live in a tough environment, but that happened at more than double the miles. The newer truck also had a shitty creaky/rattly interior. I do believe that last bit is decidedly old-GM though.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 22:11 |

Yeah, IDK why I asked that first question when I already know the answer LOL. Good to hear that the MagneRide is worth it.

I recall with the GMT800 platform, the main issue was the fact that the Allison transmission was physically larger than the 4L80E, so the cab got raised another inch or so on the pickups. Hence why with the Vortec 8100, you got the 4L80E in the 2500 Burban, and the Allison 1000 in the pickup.
But then again, GM *did* do a detuned Duramax and 4L85E in the Express van...
So in conclusion:
